Maui wedding photographer

Joanna Tano Photography started in 2006, specializing in Hawaiian destination weddings. Joanna Tano travels all over the Hawaiian island chain, as one of the most in-demand and celebrated photographers in the state, shooting over 30 weddings each year.
Joanna Tano grew up on Maui, and graduated from the University of Hawaii of Manoa. A major in psychology, Joanna also took several photography classes, where she was able to master the technical side of photography. Back in those days, photography was still oriented toward film, and Joanna spent endless hours developing her work in the darkroom.

“I always enjoyed photographing friends while I was in high school and college,” Joanna recalled. “After I got married in 2005, I realized the importance of the wedding photographer, in helping the bride to relax, and making sure the day goes smoothly. I realized how important it is that crucial moments – such as the vows – are carefully captured. I decided it was a something I could do with a passion, because I have a romantic streak and absolutely love weddings.”

As a maui wedding photographer, Joanna combines a photojournalistic style – with an eye for capturing candid expressions – with a fashion stylistic sensibility. She likes to document all the details of the wedding, from the place settings and flowers to the bride’s hair style and her jewelry and shoes.

Joanna Tano Photography offers a variety of photographic packages, which can include albums, prints, and DVDs,The number of images provided is usually about fifty to a hundred per hour. She offers several different wedding packages, and can be hired for a little as one hour to as long as an entire day. Besides Maui wedding photography, Joanna also does family portraits, engagement shoots, honeymoon shots, trash-the-dress photo sessions, etc.

Joanna is able to help her clients select the most romantic backdrops, since she has intimate knowledge of the island’s beaches, waterfalls, forests and scenic valleys. Her favorite locales are Po’olenalena Beach, Makena Beach, Ironwoods in Kapalua, and Iao Valley in Central Maui. “A lot of people enjoy the beaches, and might overlook other beautiful places such as Twin Halls in Huelo, the Lavender Farm in Kula and Iao Valley,” she commented. “Also, some urban venues, such as Paia town and Lahaina town, also offer a change of pace and some fun backdrops.”

Examples of Joanna’s work can be found on the websites of Pacific Weddings, Style Me Pretty, Style Unveiled, Project Wedding, Wedding Wire, Destination I Do, Wedding Chic, Offbeat Bride, Destination Wedding and Honeymoon, TheKnot.com, and of course at her own blog at JoannaTano.com/blog.
